South OC Hybrid Homeschool
A core class, academic-focused in-person enrichment program
In 2018, I started a co-op for 14 students once a week. Each family paid its portion for the teacher and rental space. It has been such a joy to see these kiddos bond like a family and learn from a wonderful teacher who guides them in small groups to academic success. For the 2019-2020 school year, I decided to add a day to the hybrid homeschool program to create better cohesiveness across the core subjects. We have had a very successful 2019/2020 school year, and we have seen our students thrive in all academic areas.
Our goal at SOCHH is to place the emphasis on small group learning. This allows our teachers to work with kiddos at their level, moving them up and down in groups as needed and according to skill rather than age or grade.
Our classes are all combo classes. All students will participate in the morning meeting, group projects, lunch, recess, and PE in their homeroom with their grade-peers. In small groups, kids can be moved around to maximize their mastery of a subject.
South OC Hybrid Homeschool is ideal for children coming out of public school but still wanting a traditional school environment AND for children whose parents are trying to eventually transition them from homeschooling into a traditional public school setting.
We believe that, on their days off, kids should be outdoors exploring in nature, curling up with a good book, or being creative with play and letting their brains rest. It is in the rest times that the skills are really learned. It is when the brain is not overtaxed or stressed that the brain can fully take in new concepts.
Is there homework in this program? Yes, there are things that the parents as the primary teacher will need to work on with their children.
We welcome new families to our program and can’t wait to meet you!
